Safety is TOMCO2’s concern. Our carbon dioxide monitor helps ensure that it is safe for you and your staff to enter or work in areas where Carbon Dioxide or Dry Ice  is stored.

High concentrations of Carbon Dioxide in an enclosed space can be deadly to you or your staff.  TOMCO2’s Carbon Dioxide Monitor incorporates the Analox Carbon Dioxide Sensor that is so reliable that we offer a 15-year Sensor warranty.   The monitor is also designed for harsh environments.

FAQs

A carbon dioxide leak can be fatal, but how do you know when it happens?
As an employer or manager you are required to ensure that your employees’ health and safety is not compromised as they carry out their duties.  If you store liquid carbon dioxide/dry ice in a confined space, you must complete a risk assessment.

What happens to you as Carbon Dioxide levels increase?
In a confined space at levels above 2% in the air, you may feel drowsy, at 3% the gas has a slightly narcotic effect, blood pressure rises and hearing can be impaired.  When a level of 5% is reached you will find it difficult to breathe and you may feel confused.  The higher the concentration of Carbon Dioxide rises above 5%, the sooner unconsciousness occurs.

How does the Tomco2 Carbon Dioxide Monitor Work?
When excessive levels above 1.5% of Carbon Dioxide occur, an audible warning alarm is produced.  You can ventilate the room and wait outside until the unit returns to Safe Mode (Green light only flashing).  At levels above 3% another alarm warns of the need to immediately evacuate the room.  Installing a TOMCO2 CO2 Monitor gives added protection for your employees. Your safety procedures and instructions need to advise every member of your staff that they MUST check that the green light is flashing on the remote repeater before entering the room.  We advise you to give your staff precise instructions as to the steps they must carry out in the event of monitor(s) being displayed in both the inside and outside work area.

Can we install the monitor ourselves?
Installation is easy.  The TOMCO2 Carbon Dioxide Monitor consists of a main sensor unit and a remote indicator unit.  The main sensor unit plugs directly into an electrical outlet.  A cable is pre-wired between the main sensor unit and the remote indicator.

Attach the main sensor unit to the wall 18 inches from the floor in areas where CO2 can accumulate.  The remote indicator should be installed at eye level outside the entrance door.  This allows you to check if the green light is blinking to let you know that it is safe to enter.

What if I have more than one door?
No problem.  Three remote indicator units can be connected to the master sensor.

What other available options for the TOMCO2 Carbon Dioxide Monitor?
A relay can be fitted for an exhaust fan to be automatically started when the first alarm is triggered.  This relay can be purchased for a minimum additional cost. Please let us know at the time of your order that you would like to purchase the relay.

Is there special training required to use the Monitor?
Your safety procedures and instructions need to advise every member of your staff that they must check that the green light is flashing on the remote repeater before entering the room.  We advise you to give your staff precise instructions as to the steps they must carry out in the event of alarm(s) being displayed in both the inside and outside work areas.

It is also advised that you train your personnel on how to recognize the effects of high levels of CO2

In the unlikely event the yellow fault light is illuminated and the alarm is sounding or the green light is not flashing and it is constantly illuminated, you should contact TOMCO2 Equipment Company.
